This summer I finally used up all my supplies of various cleaning products and I decided to try a homemade all purpose cleaner.
As usual, I opted for the most simple recipe I could find which was citrus peel soaked in white vinegar with a few drops of essential oil.
I’m not a big fan of vinegar unless it’s on chips but I decided the environmental and financial benefits outweighed the smell…
I think it’s fair to say that citrus peel alone doesn’t quite cut through the smell enough so I added some lemon and orange essential oil to the mix too and it’s definitely more citrussy now! You can also add Rosemary or Mint from your garden too.
However, although it smells quite strong when you first spray it there is no smell once it has dried/wiped and you get used the smell really quickly. After a couple of months I barely notice it any more.
In my spray bottle I use a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water and top up when needed. I like that this is something you can make with your family. My daughter really enjoyed adding her orange peels and stirring it all up.
I’ve found it works well cleaning the kitchen and I’m happy not to go back to purchasing any other type of cleaner.
Have you tried vinegar?
