Whipped Coconut Oil Body Lotion

I don’t buy body lotion, but I’ll admit that it has its uses, especially when I’ve been in and out of the sea all summer. I’ve finished my supplies from Christmas 2018 in June and I decided I wanted to look for a more eco-friendly alternative.

Two things I always have in the house are coconut oil and essential oils. Much as I love coconut oil…it’s anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, hydrating and may even accelerate wound healing. You can read more about the supposed benefits of coconut oil here. In its solid form it can be a bit annoying to get out of the jar, but it can be melted and whipped with essential oils to make a really nice body lotion.

Just melt as much as you want, add your favourite essential oil (I always pick lavender), then whip until you are happy with the consistency and store in an airtight jar. Mine did melt and re-solidify over the summer but it was still softer than normal coconut oil.

Coconut oil can block pores so make sure you test your skin tolerance before you whip up a massive batch. Oh, and wipe your equipment down with kitchen roll before rinsing to avoid clogging your drains!
